Off Topic

I don’t always post on here because everytime I want to, I start off strong and then get off topic to the point where the post is going in a completely different direction than what I wanted. And then I have to check to see if I’ve written something like that before and go back to check, realizing that at some point I did and there goes that post. Shockingly this post is going exactly where I want it to but will end it before I get off topic…..

Last year, I picked Broncos and Seahawks for SuperBowl with picking Broncos to win. Obviously… I was wrong. This year… I’ve decided to go a little further with my picks and picked records and teams that will be in the playoffs and who will be in the SuperBowl. This time around, I’ve decided not to pick a winner.

I’ll give you my playoffs picks and my SB picks.

NFC: in no particular order: Eagles, Packers, Seahawks, Saints, Niners and Vikings.
NFC Championship: Packers vs Niners

AFC: in no particular order: Patriots, Broncos, Ravens, Colts, Texans and Chiefs.
AFC Championship: Broncos vs Pats

SuperBowl: Packers vs Broncos

While I have those picks, I see potential in Bengals, Lions and Panthers but I’m not 100% sold on them. But I’m keeping them behind the curtain.

To remind you, this is my opinion, my picks. Say what you want, tell me I’m fucking crazy. Hell, give me that bullshit of how I know nothing. I won’t take offense to it cause the reality of it is that i could be so wrong but at least I’m not bias. I’m a Giants fan and I have the Eagles winning the division. A team that I don’t like yet I’m putting them on top. Only days away until kickoff. Can’t wait.

Strictly Based On Opinion

After reading several articles on Martin Brodeur’s legacy and the fact that some people apparently believe he is over-rated or not the greatest, I have decided to write something of my own. Strictly based on opinion. No facts will be made in this piece, no stats will be made unless it’s coming from my own brain and it will just be me against the world. Or me, a couple of Devils fans and my friends against the world. However you choose to see it.

Before I begin with this, I would like to let you know that I am one of the biggest Marty fans out there. So maybe I might come off bias because he is my all time favorite player (in all 3 leagues that I watch) and no matter what anyone else thinks of him, I consider him #1 on my list. So lets see how long it takes for you dumb fucks to start calling me a Pink Hat or possibly a fangirl, if you aren’t sure what a Pink Hat is or any other dumb name that will make you feel better about yourself. Actually I dare you to. It would be fun having an argument with you where you continue to use the same stat as if that is the only stat that matters, WHEN it clearly doesn’t. So lets start…

What is the difference between a legend and being the greatest? Don’t they go hand and hand? In order for you to become a legend, you have to do something that makes you the greatest to earn the right to be called a legend where people will remember you in the sport. Although you would have to earn the right to be called the greatest to get into the next level of being a legend, right? So why is it so hard to just let it be what it is and just let Marty be the greatest? Because his numbers tell a story that doesn’t make sense? Because of the changes that have happened in the NHL over the years that has changed the way particular players play their game? Because of the teams and shots he has faced over the years doesn’t add up to be the greatest? Is it because you’re just jealous and hate the fact that this guy is praised by so many people and you absolutely fucking hate it? It happens! And how could you look at the past 2, maybe 3 seasons and say to me that those seasons define who a player really is? Lots of questions and the answers that I will get will be the stats; a bunch of numbers that anyone who can read and understand can do. It doesn’t make you special that you can read off stats to me and that will win your argument. Just because I don’t look at stats doesn’t mean I don’t know the sport or the players.

I look at the way a player plays day in and day out. I look at this in a different way, a way that a lot of you couldn’t care less to look at it. Because when you’re doing your articles you solely base it off of the stats, while I am going based on my own opinion and what I have seen. Marty today isn’t the Marty 5 years ago or the Marty 10 years ago. He’s 41 years old, he’s not the same but in his prime, he was amazing. A goaltender that I would take when the game is on the line. A goaltender I would trust, regardless of the situation. A goaltender who will win a game for you when your team is up by one and there’s a lot of traffic in front of him in the final 2 minutes. It’s not because he’s a Devil, it’s not because he’s my favorite player, it’s because I watch goaltenders more than anything else when it comes to the sport and he’s the go-to guy. Or was the go-to guy. No matter how you slice it, he’s the one, the legend.

Here’s something that has been annoying the shit outta me since the second week of the season, don’t blame Marty on the 2013-2014 season. Blame lack of defense, blame lack of offense. Blame the fact that only 3-4 guys were the only ones who actually wanted to win and the rest weren’t about the team, they were about themselves. If you know the sport, I mean really know the sport, you know that while the goalie a huge asset, if a team isn’t giving goal support, don’t think for one second that the goalie is gonna help you win the game. And if you’re going to give me this bullshit stat report about how Marty sucked this season, you need to realize that Marty wasn’t looking to improve his record, he was just looking to play. And since there wasn’t a legit #1 starter, that’s what fucked this team up… well other than the fact that they had no idea how to shoot during a skills competition that is so unnecessary during the regular season. So seriously, cut the shit with this “I Blame Marty” conversation.

So all you anti-Marty fans out there, hate the guy all you want, be jealous of the guy, be pissed, be annoyed, whatever the fuck you want but unless you have watched his entire 21 seasons, you can’t dare to tell me that it’s all based on stats alone. That’s one side of it, a piece of the story. It’s also about the way he has played for over 2 decades. Actually watching him, not just looking at highlights and reading stats and thinking that’s it of the story, now I shall write an article about why he sucks or isn’t the greatest based on stats. Seriously, you act like this guy is gone already because of the trade deadline and his so called final game. Who the hell knows what will happen next season. Shit, he might be a Devil again (which would probably piss off some people) or he might play for another team for one last season, who the fuck knows but stop writing him off as if the guy is 70 years ago and he’s about to die. C’mon, you’re better than that.

And here’s a good one….if the Devils had another goalie, do you really think the Devils would still be in New Jersey? Do you think they would have built a beautiful arena in Newark for an okay team? Do you think the Devils would have won 3 cups with another goalie if you are strictly going based on the great defense we had from 95-03. Defense can’t always help you when you need it. When defense lacks, will that goalie be there to make a save? Will that goalie be able to read plays? Will that goalie be able to see thru the traffic and still be able to make that save that the other goalie at the other end cannot? Think about that without going thru stats or googling it and just remember who was on those teams from 95-03 and realize that this team would not have been the team it is today. (Note: strictly based on opinion. Don’t kill me because I am stating an opinion)

So in conclusion, we can all agree to disagree and you could give me your greatest argument on why Marty isn’t the greatest and why you think he would or wouldn’t be in your Top 5 but lets be real here, the guy is a fucking legend. We will still be talking about him years after he has left the game and you idiots will still be trying to knock everyone down who believes he’s the greatest with your stupid points because that’s what you do. While I will go thru season by season, playoff by playoff, cup by cup telling you that in my eyes he is the greatest. And if you don’t like it, you can shove it. Just like you don’t care what I’m saying, I no longer give two fucks what you are saying.

Have an outstanding day kiddies. Hope you learned something valuable from this.

A Devils Fan 4Life. - I could go into a whole other thing as to why I am a Devils fan, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the cups or Marty.

If you continue to use the same line over and over again to try to win an argument or make someone see it your way, you will end up looking like a fool when someone who knows more than you will hit you with different lines that you can’t argue with because you only know one thing. A debate is based on multiple facts/statements, not on one thing you only know about that doesn’t even matter, nor can be argued in an debate due to the fact that people push that aside because it doesn’t tell the whole story about what you are trying to push onto others.
